STORy Meaning Motion toward Stories: Modes & MODALitieS (Storms Modals)
A story never stands on its own. It always comes from other stories and leads to other stories. A Research Story is the same. Now the researcher decides which story, or what combination of stories needs to be told, what combination of stories is meaningful enough to be told.
A Psycho-Social Science story is like a film, and the Meaning of the story is in the combination of the images or pictures of realities. So a researcher may choose to focus on some images, some on a combination of more images or pictures of realities, and some others, following the importance of the images, may settle on a particular speed to look at the combination of images following how relevant to the story being told. A slower speed would place the lens on particular images, but a faster speed would look at the movement of images or pictures of realities and what they are leading to.
A focus on images or pictures of reality would mean to study the specific validity and reliability of aspects of reality, but their meaning would be restricted. In looking at the speedy combination of images or pictures of reality, meanings can associate to lead to real insights about the dynamism of phenomena in reality.
As connections are established rapidly enough, the more elaborate the context may be in its intricate mapping of psycho-social phenomena, and the conditions of their happenstances. Thus the light may move more systematically to illuminate what happened, what's happening and what may happen in certain situations. As psycho-social facts like social images are like synapses in the brain, and the more the evolution of their relationships blossoms, the more insights we gather about the behavior of their actors.
Such research about how meaningful associations of contexts emerge will be fruitful in determining relevant insights into happenstances both at the micro and at the macro level, and the rapports between them. This is the importance of big data, and in that case Big Stories Data and/or Big Data Stories, and how it will impact research into the Psycho-social sciences.
The bigger the data sets or Stories Sets, the more we may observe change and understand the reasons for change. And the more we understand change, the more we understand the choices that were made, and thus the experiences that led there, together with the emotions underpinning them. We get a better picture of Psycho-Social phenomena out of these many associations and the speed at which they connect, emerge and evolve.
So we're really talking about Models, Frameworks to understand Psych-Social Phenomena, and the interactions between these Models to form larger Frameworks, thus Meta Models and Meta Frameworks, from different perspectives so that phenomena can be seen in so many different angles following the situations at hand, also with a historical background, adding the temporal to the spatial and environmental.
Modeling is thus of a prime importance in understanding Psycho-Social phenomena, not only as framework to make sense of them but also to perceive the importance and the meaning of the connections, and also their state and their evolution, both in the present and in the future.
